New York is Terrible at Stopping for Red Lights

"I can make it! No, really, I can!" How many of us exclaim THAT when trying to catch a traffic light when it's yellow and beat the red light? Well, apparent too many of us New Yorkers according to new research.

Bader Scott, an injury law firm, reportedly analyzed four years of data (between 2018 and 2022) from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to see which states had the highest percentage of drivers running red lights that resulted in fatal accidents.

And it's really bad news for New York. According to the study, not only are we in the Top 10 of states with the most fatal crashes due to a driver running a red light, we're inside the Top 5.

Bader Scott's data analysis puts New York THIRD on the list with 1,345 deadly accidents attributed to blowing a red light. That's a percentage of 18.83%!

The only two states worse than New York are Colorado in at #2 on the list and Nevada taking the #1 spot.

What's the rush? It's not like we're playing 'Red Light, Green Light' (thank goodness).

So, the next time you're rushing trying to make it through that yellow light before it turns red just STOP. Wherever you're headed its better to make it there alive and not risk hurting yourself or someone else.
