Former Substitute Teacher/Ride Share Driver Finally Becomes a New York Yankee

New York's newest Yankee is J.C. Escarra. Before making the team and finally fulfilling his Major League Baseball dreams, 29-year-old Escarra was struggling to make ends meet as a substitute teacher by day and Uber driver by night.

But having spent years playing minor league baseball he persevered hoping one day his life would change and he'd become the professional athlete he always knew he was meant to be.

Recently, J.C. got the news that would materialize his ultimate goal. That news came in the form of a conversation with Yankees manager Aaron Boone, informing Escarra that he'd made the team's final 2025 roster.

The moment became really real (and emotional) for J.C. when he called his family to give them the good news. Watch both moments unfold in the video below!

The Yankees opened their 2025 season Thursday in the Bronx with a series against the Milwaukee Brewers. If you hit up a game this season look out for #25 J.C. Escarra in the catcher's position.
